An ideal use for Spyder Shelf is with the Spyder X Pro and Spyder X Elite display calibration tools. The Spyder X Pro and Spyder X Elite, as well as the older Spyder5PRO and Spyder5ELITE, have a room light measurement feature. This feature is used to measure the room lighting prior to calibration then suggest a monitor brightness and white point that is appropriate.
Or to use the Spyder X Pro and Spyder X Elite, as well as the older Spyder5PRO Plus and the Spyder5ELITE Plus, include a feature called Room Light Switching. The Spyder sensor can be placed flat on the surface of the Spyder Shelf to monitor the room lighting so the Spyder Utility can use the profile that is the best fit for the room lighting. Placing the sensor above the monitor avoids inadvertent light influence of the monitor.
