Information about the calibration and profile handling:

For the calibration, please change your Reference Mode on your Liquid Retina XDR Display to Apple Display (P3-500 nits). Here is a link to an article from Apple on the Reference Modes: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210435

When you calibrate, you get an ICC ColorSync profile, as expected. This profile is in effect “on top” of whatever the current Apple preset for the display is set to.

Because Apple has hidden the normal “MacOS System Preferences” ability to switch between ICC profiles for the internal display of the 14“ & 16" MacBook Pro 2021 / 2022 with the Liquid Retina XDR Display, which use their “preset” system, the most convenient way to switch profiles is to use the SpyderUtility’s “Profile Management” feature (only Spyder X2 Ultra & Spyder X2 Elite / Spyder X Pro & Spyder X Elite) to do that instead. To switch back to the default Apple profile for the display, then you can choose “Color LCD” in the list.

The Apple’s ColorSync Utility application is another way to switch ICC profiles, but it’s much more technical and user unfriendly.

Information for customers that use macOS 12 Monterey systems:

With the release of macOS Monterey 12.3, the internal display of the new 14“ & 16" MacBook Pro 2021 with the Liquid Retina XDR Display can now be calibrated. Apple has fixed the calibration of the internal display of this new MacBook Pro.

The calibration of external monitors attached to the 14“ or 16" MacBook Pro 2021 with the Liquid Retina XDR Display is not impacted by this macOS release and can be done successfully. The calibration of external monitors attached to the 14“ or 16" MacBook Pro 2021 with the Liquid Retina XDR Display was never effected.

If you have not updated to macOS Monterey 12.3 or higher and the appearance of your display does not look correct after saving a profile under a previous Monterey version, please delete the profile you have created.

Use the Finder application (if you cannot access the Finder, boot in safe mode - https://support.apple.com/HT201262 ) and go to the folder:

~/Users/YOUR USERNAME/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/

Please note: Starting from 10.7 Lion Apple has set the User Library to be hidden.

In the Finder go to the "Go To" / "Go" menu and press the "ALT/Option " key and an additional menu item will show up called "Library" as long as you press the "ALT/Option " key.

That is a temporary access to the User Library. Please feel free to look up in the web how to make the User Library visible permanently.

Locate the profile you have created and trash it. Reboot your system now. Before calibrating again, update to macOS Monterey 12.3 or higher.
